Our story
Innovation in the service of safety
Our mission is to make safety on the road effortless. We make Detecte easy to use so that drivers can start immediately, we provide support without pointing fingers, and we maintain a human focus. Prevention should pay for itself by avoiding damage, not costing money. We are building a system that prevents problems rather than analysing them afterwards, because every second of distraction avoided makes a difference.
This project started with a bang, literally
A few years ago, I was hit by a driver who was using their mobile phone while driving. I came out of it physically unscathed, but it deeply affected me. That experience made one thing painfully clear: road safety is not a detail; it is a matter of life and death. What struck me the most was that so much attention is given to the problem of mobile phone usage, but hardly any to structural prevention. That’s when I started Detecte with my team, not only to address mobile phone usage but to identify all risky behaviour on the road early and to help organisations make a real difference. Because fewer accidents mean less suffering, and that’s what we’re here for.

Simplicity, respect and focus behind the wheel
We tackle distraction because one second is enough for things to go wrong. The driver is central to this: Detecte helps precisely when needed and stays silent when everything is going well. No punishments, no rush, but immediate feedback that brings the driver back to the road before something goes wrong. The employer gains insights into reports and trends through the dashboard, not to search for faults, but to make safety within the company conscious and discussable. This is how you build a culture where drivers are supported to stay alert and avoid accidents.
Why are we different? Because from day one we chose simplicity over complexity. Detecte works via the already available smartphone or tablet, without cables, external cameras, or installation processes. A fleet does not need to be halted to start; an hour of onboarding is enough. We believe that safety only has an impact when it requires no extra work, causes no technical hassle, and everyone is immediately on board. Accessible, scalable, and immediately applicable in the reality of transport.
We are supported by imec istart and Start it @KBC, received various innovation grants, and are making strides forward with partners in professional fleets. Not just a concept on paper, but a solution that is confidently carried forward and further developed to make behaviour on the road structurally safer.
